Comic Artist Badge for Cadette Girl Scouts

Comic Artist Badge Workshop for Cadette Girl Scouts in Palo Alto.

I recently led another workshop for a troop of Cadette Girl Scouts in Palo Alto, Ca. I love working with Girl Scouts. They are intelligent, creative and dynamic girls.

When I arrived at the house of the one of the leaders, the troop, adult leaders and the girls, had all the materials ready. We were able to get going almost as soon as I arrived.

The girls were so focused that we were able, to my surprise, to cover all the  required steps to earn the Comic Book Artist badge. The process included learning about the world of comics, choosing a story, writing and drawing a three-panel comic strip (pencil, ink and color (optional) and sharing it. The girls chose their own topics.

I gave the girls the option of sharing their work on my website. After the workshop, the leaders scanned the comic strips and sent them to me. Look at their pages below. Aren’t they great! The girls learned quite a lot in such a short time. And they earned the legacy badge, Comic Artist. I hope they keep doing comic pages!

Comic Artist Badge workshop for Cadette Girl Scouts in Palo Alto.

I recently led a workshop for a troop of Cadette Girl Scouts in Palo Alto, Ca. I have known the troop leader for a long time now and I knew working with her troop would be a pleasure.

I met twice with the troop (a total of less than four hours) and we covered all the required steps to earn the Comic Book Artist badge. The girls chose the activities. Actually, they did more than was required, as often Girl Scouts do. The process included learning about the world of comics, choosing a story, writing a script, doing the thumbnails, penciling, inking and coloring (optional) their final panels on a good piece of drawing paper.  At the end of the workshop, they had created a four-panel comic based on their individual story.
Look at their pages below. Aren’t they great! The girls learned quite a lot in such a short time. And they earned the legacy badge, Comic Artist.  I hope they keep doing comic pages. Next time, maybe we’ll do a booklet…
I love working with Girl Scouts!
